He gets decent drive from his lower half and good extension from a 3/4 slot delivery that allows his fastball in the low-90s to play up and does run it up to 95 at times. He has a change that needs plenty of development but it has shown decent signs in his limited use of it. Payton is a superstar for the Cardinals and he’s primed to have another strong campaign in 2023.   Ryan Vanderhei RHP                     TCU 2022 Kansas stats - 6.46 ERA in 78 innings   2-27-23 - Opening Weekend  - Ryan Vanderhei , RHP, TCU– Although a fourth-year college player, the Kansas transfer has been a revelation in just seven months at his new college home. Vanderhei was the talk of the fall with an electric arm and terrific stuff. He was anywhere from 95-99 mph with his fastball early in the fall before settling in more in the 92-96 mph range. At the Showdown the 6-foot-6, 190 pound right-hander topped 97 with his heater, sitting 94-95 and maintaining 92-94 into the fourth inning. He lands open, creating arm side action for plus life on his fastball. His improved changeup was mostly plus and he used it in big situations to get soft contact for outs. His 84-88 mph slider was also a factor, showing average consistently, while flashing plus. With a mix of stuff, performance and projection, Vanderhei, like Hollan, easily projects to early Day Two. The Aggies got an early Christmas present this past summer when the veteran Bost decided to return to Aggieland for another season. He’s expected to take an even bigger step forward this spring as he’s finally 100 percent healthy. He was not healthy for much of last season.
