Hunter Dietz LHP Calvart Christian HS (FL)   1-23-23 - Prep Baseball Report           @prepbaseball   The 6-foot-6 LHP   Hunter Dietz  showed well in multiple marquee summer events and elevating his status as one of the top arms in the country.   12-28-22 - 2023 MLB Draft – Top 50 High School Prospects https://www.prospects1500.com/general/2023-mlb-draft-top-50-high-school-prospects/ 34.  Hunter Dietz , LHP, Calvary Christian HS (FL) – It seems like pitchers keep getting bigger each year, and Dietz is a good example of that as he is a 6’6” and 230 lbs. lefty. He gets decent drive from his lower half and good extension from a 3/4 slot delivery that allows his fastball in the low-90s to play up and does run it up to 95 at times. He has a change that needs plenty of development but it has shown decent signs in his limited use of it. The important secondary offering of his is the “gyro slider” which is a heavie...

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - C - BT Riopeille

BT Riopelle C           Florida           Senior   1-19-23 - Florida baseball position preview: Catcher https://247sports.com/college/florida/LongFormArticle/Florida-baseball-season-preview-catcher-BT-Riopelle-Kevin-OSullivan-Gators-roster-203295118/Amp/   BT Riopelle  - A power-hitting backstop with the ability to effectively play first base or serve as a team's full-time designated hitter, Riopelle led all SEC backstops with 14 home runs, 50 RBI and a .581 slugging percentage and maintained a .306 batting average with seven doubles and a triple last year, his first with the Gators after a three-year stint at Coastal Carolina. The 6-foot backstop earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2021 after slashing .270/.354/.459 with career highs in hits (50), home runs (12), doubles (11), RBI (27), runs (27), walks (17), steals (eight) and fielding percentage (.980).   The value of Riopelle's p...

Payton is a superstar for the Cardinals and he’s primed to have another strong campaign in 2023. Payton is coming off a solid 2022 campaign as well, hitting .349 with 23 doubles, four home runs and 54 RBIs. He also has a little swing and miss, but finished the season with more than 30 walks. Payton is already a premier backstop and doubles hitter. Now, we’re expecting him to tap into even more home run power during the upcoming season. UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - RHP - Ryan Vanderhei

Image
Ryan Vanderhei RHP                     TCU 2022 Kansas stats - 6.46 ERA in 78 innings   2-27-23 - Opening Weekend  - Ryan Vanderhei , RHP, TCU– Although a fourth-year college player, the Kansas transfer has been a revelation in just seven months at his new college home. Vanderhei was the talk of the fall with an electric arm and terrific stuff. He was anywhere from 95-99 mph with his fastball early in the fall before settling in more in the 92-96 mph range. At the Showdown the 6-foot-6, 190 pound right-hander topped 97 with his heater, sitting 94-95 and maintaining 92-94 into the fourth inning. He lands open, creating arm side action for plus life on his fastball. His improved changeup was mostly plus and he used it in big situations to get soft contact for outs. His 84-88 mph slider was also a factor, showing average consistently, while flashing plus. With a mix of stuff, performance and projection, Vander...

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - 2B - Austin Bost

Image
Austin Bost 2B           TAMU   1-17-23 - Top 25 Breakdown: No. 5 Texas A&M https://d1baseball.com/season-preview/top-25-breakdown-no-5-texas-am/ Star Power: Austin Bost . The Aggies got an early Christmas present this past summer when the veteran Bost decided to return to Aggieland for another season. Bost had a big-time breakout campaign for the Aggies last season, hitting .360 with 14 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 45 RBIs. He’s expected to take an even bigger step forward this spring as he’s finally 100 percent healthy. He was not healthy for much of last season. There’s a lot of balance throughout this offensive lineup, and Bost is the ringleader.   11-10-22 - 2022 Fall Report: Texas A&M - https://d1baseball.com/fall-report/texas-am-2022/  -   Going across the infield, the second base position will likely be occupied by Austin Bost,  who hit double digit home runs and hit in the mid-300s last se...

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - 2B - Peyton Chantagnier

Image
Peyton Chantagnier 2B Ole MIss   1-17-23 - Top 25 Breakdown: No. 4 Ole Miss https://d1baseball.com/season-preview/top-25-breakdown-no-4-ole-miss/   Glue Guy: Peyton Chatagnier  is the classic Energizer bunny, a fiery competitor who is the emotional heart and soul of this team. He’s also a steady defensive second baseman with sneaky pop in his compact frame, and expect him to bounce back strong after an uneven campaign with the bat last year.   2022 Fall Report: Ole Miss - https://d1baseball.com/fall-report/2022-ole-miss/  -   Gonzalez will once again team up with firebrand second baseman Peyton Chatagnier  to form a dynamite double play tandem. Chatagnier’s batting average and OBP dipped last year as he battled through an offensive funk for a good portion of the season, but his power numbers spiked (from six homers to 11), and his reliable defense never wavered (.985 fielding percentage). He remains a crucial energy source, a defensive p...

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - RHP - Ethan Chenault

Image
Ethan Chenault RHP UNC Wilmington   1-13-23 - 2023 MLB DRAFT: BIG STUFF, NO COMMAND, BIG FUTURE? https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2023/1/13/2023-mlb-draft-big-stuff-no-command-big-future?s=03 ETHAN CHENAULT FF: 108 Stuff+ SL: 130 Stuff+ CB: 152 Stuff+ UNC-Wilmington righty Ethan Chenault will be draft-eligible for the second time in 2023 but has the foundational pieces to see his game soar this season. Scouts want to see more defining traits behind the fastball this spring. If that happens, his name could skyrocket up boards. Over 39 innings last season, including three starts, Chenault struck out 53 batters but surrendered 27 walks. The two breaking balls are the bread and butter here. The curveball especially really shines in Davis’ model grading out at 152. Of the pitchers that threw at least 100 curveballs last season, Chenault’s graded out fourth best. At 82 mph, few others could match his two-plane tilt at that velocity. Chenault gets an especially ...

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - 3B - Daniel Cuvet

Image
Daniel Cuvet 3B                ESB Academy (FL)   1-12-23 - Perfect Game California @California_PG   Top 3b in the state of FL and entering 2023 ranked 24th in the country, Daniel Cuvet  of ESB Academy.  Physical 6'4"/225 lbs, generates excellent torque and leverage creating big time power. Canes Baseball commit   12-28-22 - 2023 MLB Draft – Top 50 High School Prospects https://www.prospects1500.com/general/2023-mlb-draft-top-50-high-school-prospects/ 47. Daniel Cuvet , 3B, ESB Academy (FL) – With as much raw power as any in this prep class, Cuvet is about as prototypical a power-power 3B as it gets. He has a massive arm, although he can get too confident in it and make plays closer than they need to be, and absolutely demolishes baseballs. There is plenty of swing and miss in the bat which does raise some concerns, but less in today’s game than a generation ago. He is one of the younger players i...

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - SS - John Peck

Image
John Peck SS Pepperdine   1-9-23 - FIVE SUPER-SLEEPERS WHO COULD GO NO. 1 IN THE 2023 MLB DRAFT https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2023/1/7/five-super-sleepers-who-could-go-no-1-in-the-2023-mlb-draft?s=03   JOHN PECK , SHORTSTOP, PEPPERDINE Of the five names mentioned here, Peck is certainly the biggest longshot to go first overall, but he’s extremely interesting and worth a deep dive. In 2022, Peck slashed .361/.417/.578 with seven homers and seven stolen bases. He logged 39 starts, all at the shortstop position, missing about a month with an undisclosed injury. That performance landed him a roster spot with Bourne in the Cape Cod League. Peck would struggle, slashing .195/.270/.260, uncharacteristic strikeouts slowing his summer.   Despite the underwhelming showing, it’s Peck’s batted-ball data that has analysts raving about what it could look like if he puts it all together. Over 96 balls in play, Peck peaked north of 111.5 mph. He hit close to...
