Glue Guy: Peyton Chatagnier is the classic Energizer bunny, a fiery competitor who is the emotional heart and soul of this team. He’s also a steady defensive second baseman with sneaky pop in his compact frame, and expect him to bounce back strong after an uneven campaign with the bat last year.

Gonzalez will once again team up with firebrand second baseman Peyton Chatagnier to form a dynamite double play tandem. Chatagnier’s batting average and OBP dipped last year as he battled through an offensive funk for a good portion of the season, but his power numbers spiked (from six homers to 11), and his reliable defense never wavered (.985 fielding percentage). He remains a crucial energy source, a defensive pillar, and a sneaky righthanded power source, and he could have a big senior year if he can improve his K-BB rate (here’s betting that he will).

  Nolan McLean RHP/OF Oklahoma State   2-27-23 - Opening Weekend  - Nolan McLean , RHP/OF, Oklahoma State– The power hitting prospect has shifted from third base to the right field this season where his arm strength/raw power/defense tools profile well. During the Showdown he showed much more plate discipline with six walks against just two strikeouts compared to a 37/107 ratio in 242 at-bats last season. He also blasted a three-run home run to center field to put the Pokes back in the Vandy game, cutting the score to 11-8. It was a loud shot, one that needed earplugs from my seat. McLean is also a power prospect on the mound with a fastball up to 96 and a plus slider. He strong-armed Missouri for two strikeouts in the ninth inning to earn the save in State’s 5-3 win on opening night.
