UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - 3B - Max Anderson

Max Anderson 3B   Nebraska 2022 Cornhusker stat line - 53-G, 224-AB, .299, 10-HR   11-28-22 - 2023 MLB Draft: College Top 100 Prospects - https://d1baseball.com/prospects/2023-mlb-draft-college-top-100-prospects/  -   86 Max Anderson 3B Nebraska Big Ten     11-19-22 - 2023 MLB Draft: an early look at the Big Ten http://dugoutedgebaseball.blogspot.com/2022/11/2023-mlb-draft-early-look-at-big-ten.html?m=1&s=03   6. 3B Max Anderson , Nebraska. Bat: R. Throw: R. 6', 195 lbs. Born 2/28/2002. Hometown: Omaha, NE. 2022: 10 HR, .299/.349/.513, 6 SB, 26/14 K/BB in 53 games. With glasses and an average build, Max Anderson doesn't look like a top prospect. However, between a .314/.366/.507 career line at Nebraska and a long track record of success in the Cape Cod League, it's hard to knock the performance. He played on the Cape in both 2021 and 2022 and combined to slash .297/.356/.405 in 78 games, showing no issues with the jump in competition from the Big Ten eithe

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - C - Luke Shliger

Image
Luke Shliger C           Maryland     1-19-23 - Top 25 Breakdown: No. 13 Maryland https://d1baseball.com/season-preview/top-25-breakdown-no-13-maryland/ Glue Guy: C Luke Shliger  very quietly had a monster season in 2022. He led the team in hitting at .353, had an insanely high .495 on-base percentage—his 54 walks and 20 hit by pitches helped greatly—flashed plenty of power with 22 doubles and 12 home runs, and swiped 14 bases. He’s a durable catcher who can control the opposing running game with sub-two-second pop times who is also athletic enough to play second base and perhaps a corner outfield spot if pressed into duty. To summarize: Shliger ably plays a premium defensive position, is the best on-base guy that Maryland has, wears out the gaps and can hit the ball out of the ballpark, and is a savvy enough runner to steal bases, and that’s why it feels like he may actually be the Terrapins’ most important piece.   1-1-23 - 2022 Fall Report: Maryland https://d1baseball.com/

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - LHP - Magdiel Cotto

Magdiel Cotto   LHP             Kentucky     Magdiel Cotto LHP Kentucky 2022 Wildcats stat line -     11-28-22 - 2023 MLB Draft: College Top 100 Prospects - https://d1baseball.com/prospects/2023-mlb-draft-college-top-100-prospects/  -   68 Magdiel Cotto LHP Kentucky SEC     11-12-22 - 2023 MLB Draft – Top 50 College Prospects - https://www.prospects1500.com/mlb-draft/2023-mlb-draft-top-50-college-prospects/   46. Magdiel Cotto , LHP, Kentucky – Yes, his career ERA is over 6.50, but there is a ton of potential in this left arm. He sits mid-90s while having touched 97 with a whippy arm to go along with a decent slider and change. The big problem with Cotto is his consistency and command. When at his best he can get Ks via the sharp slider or the late dropping change, as well as blow the ball by the best hitters. Unfortunately his pitch placement catches too much of the plate, and his offerings can get flat and squared up too often. He could feasibly fall outside the top 100

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - SS - Luke Keaschall

Luke Keaschall   SS               Arizona State   2022 San Francisco stats - .947-OPS, 30-SB, 37 BB, 34 K     2-6-23 - Prospect Live - Top 100 Prospects  - 75 SS Luke Keaschall Arizona State A multi-positional infielder from San Francisco, Luke Keaschall went on a hitting tear these past 12 months. He clears his hips well when he identifies a pitch, and his strong hands help him elevate the ball even when he's fooled. Keaschall does make fairly aggressive swing decisions, and that's something teams will have to monitor at the next level. He has definitive pull-side power, but will have to add more muscle to take balls out to center and to the opposite field. Keaschall has a good bit of experience in left field after playing out there on the Cape, but that was necessary as he got in some trouble with throwing errors when manning the left side of the infield. Regardless, he runs well and should smooth out his fielding mechanics with time. Keaschall could end up a number of

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - C - Jared Dickey

Image
Jared Dickey   C               Tennessee   2-6-23 - Prospect Live - Top 100 Prospects  - 66 C/OF Jared Dickey Tennessee A part-time player in 2022, Dickey is a converted catcher with a big, strong body and a professional approach at the plate. He's got legitimately huge raw power and an up-the-middle approach that has helped him stay away from cold streaks. Dickey is a future middle-of-the-order slugger who draws a significant amount of walks and could potentially run into 30+ homer campaigns as a professional. He's best suited for a corner outfield spot or first base where his fringy speed and fringy glove fit best. That said, Dickey's above average arm will play anywhere. 1-31-23 - An Early Look at the Twins 2023 Draft https://twinsdaily.com/news-rumors/minnesota-twins/an-early-look-at-the-2023-draft-r13623/   #113 - Jared Dickey  is the 113th ranked prospect. A few things pop out immediately: He’s listed as an outfielder/catcher. The Twins desperately need to a

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - OF - Chase Davis

Image
Chase Davis   OF               Arizona     CBS - Five snubs from the Top 30, including a Wake Forest power hitter and an Arizona standout  - 2. Chase Davis , OF, Arizona Why you would expect him to be ranked: Davis has been on prospect radars since his high school days thanks to his athleticism and power. He posted a .997 OPS for the Wildcats last season, homering 18 times in 63 games.   Why he's not: Put simply, Davis has several red flags in his offensive profile. He's struck out in about a quarter of his plate appearances in conference play the last two seasons, and his in-zone contact rate last season was in the low 70s. That puts him around the territory occupied by Brock Jones, the enigmatic Stanford outfielder who dropped all the way to the 65th pick last July. It's hard to look at Davis' swing, which includes an extreme bat wrap before his launch, and feel as though he's going to make more contact without an overhaul. His overall upside is such that some t

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - LHP - Sean Sullivan

Sean Sullivan   LHP             Wake Forest   12-2-22 - 2022 Fall Report: Wake Forest - https://d1baseball.com/fall-report/2022-wake-forest/?goal=0_98c95d11a2-2375b409ba-536911606&mc_cid=2375b409ba&mc_eid=b3ee91b95b  -   Another lefthander, Northwestern transfer Sean Sullivan , is extreme outlier in another metric.   “He’s really unique,” Muscara said. “It’s a low release height, like 4-foot-10, 4-11 release height, almost sidearm lefty, but carries it almost 18 inches of induced vertical, so huge uphill approach angle. He’s 89-92 and touching 93, pretty good feel for a changeup and a slider. He started last year as Friday night guy as a true freshman. It’s a good changeup and pretty good slider but he just ripped all heaters because it’s such a good fastball. He’s like 6-4, very loose, and very, very unique — analytically he’s like the definition of a unicorn, a low release height rise from a low release height. By comparison, Josh Hader is 5-3 release height and carrying 18

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - LHP - Liam Sullivan

Liam Sullivan   LHP             Georgia   2-6-23 - https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2022/1/15/2023-mlb-draft-prospects-fx4td-92ll4 97 LHP Liam Sullivan Georgia Sullivan is a big, strong, burly lefty with a vertically-shaped fastball that shows the ability to miss bats up in the zone. He's been into the mid-90s, but generally sits in low-90s. He shows feel for a 12-6 curveball with short break in the mid-70s, though evaluators would like to see the pitch add depth or velocity as he continues to totally harness his arsenal. There's also a changeup here that has been effective when commanded against righty bats. Sullivan learned under the tutelage of Ryan Webb during his days in Athens and has starter traits with development upside. 10-19-22 -  https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2022/1/15/2023-mlb-draft-prospects-fx4td?s=03  -   55   LHP Liam Sullivan Georgia Sullivan is a big, strong, burly lefty with a vertically-shaped fastball that shows the ability

He sat in the low 90s with a riding four seam fastball, mixing in a high 80s two seamer that he busted in on the hands of right handed hitters. Off those fastballs Leffew mixed in a low 80s changeup and sweepy low 70s curveball that missed barrels, and commanded his entire arsenal well throughout his outing. With a good body and evident athleticism, the Kannapolis, NC native checks plenty of boxes with evaluators that will be eager to see how he looks in the Spring.     10-7-22 - Will Ho
