Star Power: With Dalton Rushing gone to the professional ranks, it’s going to be all about C Jack Payton behind the plate. Payton is a superstar for the Cardinals and he’s primed to have another strong campaign in 2023. Payton is coming off a solid 2022 campaign as well, hitting .349 with 23 doubles, four home runs and 54 RBIs. He also has a little swing and miss, but finished the season with more than 30 walks. Payton is already a premier backstop and doubles hitter. Now, we’re expecting him to tap into even more home run power during the upcoming season. Watch out.

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - RHP/OF - Nolan McLean

  Nolan McLean RHP/OF Oklahoma State   2-27-23 - Opening Weekend  - Nolan McLean , RHP/OF, Oklahoma State– The power hitting prospect has shifted from third base to the right field this season where his arm strength/raw power/defense tools profile well. During the Showdown he showed much more plate discipline with six walks against just two strikeouts compared to a 37/107 ratio in 242 at-bats last season. He also blasted a three-run home run to center field to put the Pokes back in the Vandy game, cutting the score to 11-8. It was a loud shot, one that needed earplugs from my seat. McLean is also a power prospect on the mound with a fastball up to 96 and a plus slider. He strong-armed Missouri for two strikeouts in the ninth inning to earn the save in State’s 5-3 win on opening night.
