2-27-23 - Opening Weekend -

Nolan McLean, RHP/OF, Oklahoma State– The power hitting prospect has shifted from third base to the right field this season where his arm strength/raw power/defense tools profile well. During the Showdown he showed much more plate discipline with six walks against just two strikeouts compared to a 37/107 ratio in 242 at-bats last season. He also blasted a three-run home run to center field to put the Pokes back in the Vandy game, cutting the score to 11-8. It was a loud shot, one that needed earplugs from my seat. McLean is also a power prospect on the mound with a fastball up to 96 and a plus slider. He strong-armed Missouri for two strikeouts in the ninth inning to earn the save in State’s 5-3 win on opening night. I remain much more bullish on his abilities transferring into a big leaguer as a pitcher than hitter. He’s a third round prospect on the mound at this point.

 

2-19-23 - D1 - Week 1 - Saturday -

Nolan McLean did some Nolan McLean things … The hard-hitting OSU All-American slugger made a big impact in the game against Vanderbilt with a mammoth home run on a 92 mph heater. But beyond the power, you know what else stood out? The fact that McLean showed a more patient plate approach — also tallying three walks. The Pokes will need him to be a bit more selective as the season progresses, and today was a good start. McLean laid off some close breaking balls against the ‘Dores.

 

2-18-23 - D1 - Week 1 - Friday -

RHP Nolan McLean — The talented closer came into the game to close it out with his trademark heat, sitting 95-96 mph with his fastball. He also threw a breaking ball at 78 mph.

Nolan McLean has top-of-the-scale raw power and could have a monster year if he can cut down his swing-and-miss rate, and he also has true shutdown power stuff at the back of the bullpen.

  Elijah Nunez OF                TCU   2-19-23 - D1 - Week 1 - Saturday  - OF Elijah Nunez  is one of college baseball’s most exciting players … He already had one of the best eyes in college baseball at the plate. Now, he’s off to a red-hot start to begin the 2023 campaign, and that’s a big development for the Frogs. Nunez was the emotional leader for the Frogs in the rout over Arkansas. UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - SS - Marcus Brown

  Marcus Brown SS Oklahoma State   2-22-23 - Opening Weekend  - Marcus Brown , SS, Oklahoma State– Brown came into his own as a sophomore at OSU last spring, hitting .316/.378/.441 with 15 doubles as a catalyst for the Cowboys. He then took his lumps last summer in the Cape, hitting .236 with 31 strikeouts against 10 walks. He started the 2023 season 1-for-9 with four strikeouts at the Showdown. At 5-foot-11, 190 pounds he’s a strong, quick-twitch athlete with decent bat speed, but his swing has some length, and he continues to be a bit pull-happy in our looks. Brown is a good runner who is aggressive on the basepaths, and he has adequate range and an average arm with a quick release that plays at shortstop at this level, though he likely profiles better at second base in pro ball. At this point, I see Brown as a very solid college player, yet one who projects as a mid-to-later Day Two pick instead of the one who has received Day One hype elsewhere this preseason. 2-6-23 - Prospect
