Mueth has emerged in a major way over the last calendar year, cementing himself as one of the top prep pitching prospects to come through Illinois since Jake Odorizzi. Listed at 6-foot-5, 190-pounds, Mueth's movement patterns down the mound are incredibly fluid and the obvious physical projection attached to his thin levers is noteworthy. He owns feel for three pitches, including a low-90s fastball and a sharp, tight slider that averaged 2,300+ RPM last winter, though his command can waver and get him in some trouble from time to time.

25. Zander Mueth, RHP, Belleville East HS (IL) – It is easy to drool over a 6’6” righty still under 200 lbs. with a sinking fastball already up 95, but there is actually some polish in the long body too. The fastball command is already pretty good and the long lovers in his low 3/4 delivery are repeatable which is more than you can say about most prep prospects with his profile. The change is currently firm with some fade but shows potential, and the slider is between 80-84 and works better as the 83-84 sharp late action version than the 80-81 bigger running version. In the end he could end up with a power sinker-power slider combo that is deadly out of the bullpen, or see that change develop and become a quality rotation piece.

UPDATED RESEARCH - 2023 Draft Prospect - SS - Marcus Brown

  Marcus Brown SS Oklahoma State   2-22-23 - Opening Weekend  - Marcus Brown , SS, Oklahoma State– Brown came into his own as a sophomore at OSU last spring, hitting .316/.378/.441 with 15 doubles as a catalyst for the Cowboys. He then took his lumps last summer in the Cape, hitting .236 with 31 strikeouts against 10 walks. He started the 2023 season 1-for-9 with four strikeouts at the Showdown. At 5-foot-11, 190 pounds he’s a strong, quick-twitch athlete with decent bat speed, but his swing has some length, and he continues to be a bit pull-happy in our looks. Brown is a good runner who is aggressive on the basepaths, and he has adequate range and an average arm with a quick release that plays at shortstop at this level, though he likely profiles better at second base in pro ball.
