Wyatt Crowell
Florida State
Crowell is an athletic lefty with a hellacious sinker that's produced plenty of swing-and-miss from his opposition. The sinker sits in the low 90s, touching 95 with plenty of arm-side run. He mixes in a promising changeup and showcasea a slider that could end up plus. Crowell appears to be next in the line of unconventional starting pitchers in Tallahassee with major stuff, folliowing Parker Messick and Bryce Hubbart. This kid is an out-getter, even if it's not coming from a prototype frame. Most evaluators project Crowell a leverable reliever at the next level if he can't start.
12-9-22 - 2022 Fall Report: Florida State
The Seminoles remain well stocked with power arms, headlined by three high-end talents in lefthander Wyatt Crowell and righties Carson Montgomery and Jackson Baumeister, all of whom have Day One draft potential.
A major question mark is how Jarrett and pitching coach Chuck Ristano elect to deploy Crowell, who racked up 77 strikeouts in 48 innings over 28 relief appearances last year, posting a 2.12 ERA. He followed up that stellar spring by working four appearances for Team USA, allowing no earned runs while showing 93-95 mph heat along with a vicious slider at 83-85 and a solid fading changeup in the mid-80s. His stuff was similar against Kennesaw State — he’s an ultra-reliable commodity, but it’s unclear how his stuff would play in longer stints as a starter given his wiry 6-foot, 170-pound physique.

37. Wyatt Crowell, LHP, Florida State – A 6-foot lefty with zero starts to his name in college, Crowell has a lot to prove this Spring if he wants to be selected high in the draft. He has a legit fastball that gets into the mid-to-upper 90s with a slider that has late break and a change that has some real upside. He has decent leg drive and better control than most college relievers, so there is definitely some hope he can make it as a starter. If he were a pure reliever, he would probably just miss out on this list, but I think there is enough hope he can stick in a rotation.
