Garrett Baumann (2023 Oviedo, FL) had solid stuff his first outing, working three innings with his usual big horizontal movement on his fastball. The heater sat in the 91-94 range and he pooped a couple 95’s during the outing. The is big potential in the mid-80s changeup that has big breaks and run on it with barrel missing potential. The slider continues to make strides and will be a solid third offering as he continues to get the shape more vertical. The 6-8 righty has really good coordination for his size/age and will only get better as the frame fills out.

41. Garrett Baumann, RHP, Hagerty HS (FL) – Stuff is inconsistent with Baumann as I have seen him sit 90-92 and I have seen him sit 96-97. Either way, the ball coming out of a 6’8” frame makes it play harder than whatever the radar gun reads on the given day. He has a slurvy slider that can show really good 2 plane break at times, while being more of a runner at others. His best pitch is a change that sits between 84-88 with a ton of late dip and run. The delivery itself is a bit stiff, but the arm has looseness to it although it can be inconsistent between his quick arm back to getting up into his delivery, but he is a big prep arm, so that is somewhat expected.

Baumann is a huge, imposing righty with a darting, sinking fastball into the mid-90s, up to 97 that he works to both sides of the plate. Baumann offers and slider, curveball and changeup, all of which flash average or better, the changeup being his best weapon presently. It's pretty impressive body control and athleticism from a kid his size with some throwing Andrew Painter comparisons on him. Baumann will need to continue to show he can consistently throw strikes, as well as develop a better breaking ball as he develops and moves up the ladder.
