#18 Cooper Pratt (Mark J. Rebilas / USA Today)
Cooper Pratt, SS, Magnolia Heights (Miss.) High
Pratt offers projection with a solid foundation of bat-to-ball skills with average-ish power already, projecting to 55/60 in both the hit and power tools. He has a plus arm and moves well at shortstop, although he’s not a runner and as he fills out he could move to third base. He doesn’t expand the zone much for a teenager, even against good competition over the summer and fall last year.

Cooper Pratt
Magnolia Heights
Pratt is a strong, long-bodied infielder with big tools and a track record of performing against premium pitching. Pratt has a proven resume against velocity and has a willingness to use the whole field, spraying line drives to all-fields, showcasing over-the-fence juice to his pullside. Pratt is a fringe-average runner and likely a fringe-average athlete, though with his frame, there's a chance he could hold his speed or even get a touch quicker with added muscle and training. He's got a huge arm, comfortable plus across the diamond. Most evaluators believe he's destined for third base or maybe even right field. The bat is what you're buying here, and Pratt should develop into significant impact at the plate.

Crisp and athletic, Pratt has all the tools to stick at short for the long term. His quick hands generate big bat speed, making it likely he develops much more power.

Cooper Pratt, SS, Magnolia Heights (Miss.)
Current Draft Board Rank: 45
Pratt may not be the most under-the-radar name, but there may be a real chance he’s one of the first prep infielders off the board in the first two rounds. There are big tools and physical projection on both sides that I believe should put him right in the discussion with some of the top preps in the class. He projects as an above-average defender with crisp actions and soft hands that at the very least can handle the left side of the dirt, if not shortstop long term. He put together a loud showing with the stick this year with plus bat speed and loud contact to all fields. Pratt checks a ton of boxes in a draft profile and may fit the mold of a Cutter Coffey from last year.

COOPER PRATT SS / MAGNOLIA HEIGHTS, MS / 2023
Rankings STATERANK: 1 / POS: 1 OVERALLRANK: 17 / POS: 6
Pratt, an Ole Miss recruit, rose up draft boards throughout the summer, and continued to impress with a quality showing throughout the fall including at the PBR Cup in September. At 6-foot-4, 195-pounds with a pristine frame that promises more strength in coming years, Pratt immediately passes the eye-test of which his play only reconfirms. A natural defender with clean, confident hands that allow him to find the right spot in the glove with each ground ball before delivering strong throws across the diamond, Pratt looks the part of a professional shortstop. Adding to his allure as a prospect is a short stroke that sees quickness in a short frame while producing firm contact to all fields with even more future power highly likely. Up into the top 20 nationally, Pratt is firmly grouped into an elite set of shortstops in the class. The spring will provide a proving ground in setting draft value, which is likely very high considering the fact that he would immediately be one of the closest follows for the 2026 draft should he make it to campus.

COOPER PRATT SS / RHP / MAGNOLIA HEIGHTS, MS / 2023
Rankings STATERANK: 1 / POS: 1 OVERALLRANK: 32 / POS: 10
Pratt, an Ole Miss recruit, emerged as a must-follow talent coming out of the Magnolia State next spring after a strong summer. Broad-shouldered with a pro-ready 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame, the shortstop is impossible to miss on the diamond where his easy actions provide for smooth movements on both sides of the ball. However, it is the upside of the right-handed stick that is likely to bring important eyes to Magnolia Heights in the spring.
