3-1-23 - The Scouting Trail: Round Rock Prospect Breakdown -

No. 77 Nick Goodwin, SS, Kansas State– Hitting three-hole in the Wildcat lineup, Goodwin is continually looking to do damage at the plate. He’s been a mainstay of the K-State lineup for two years and posted an .879 OPS with 11 HR and 18 doubles as a sophomore last season. He has plenty of strength in his sturdy frame at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds which produces plus raw power. Despite a high strikeout rate (23%) last season, he showed the ability to shorten his swing with two strikes and control the barrel upon this look in Round Rock. Possessing average agility and instincts Goodwin showed fringe range at shortstop. His slightly better than average arm is enough for the left side of the infield where he projects on a part-time basis. His top profile in the long-term is as an offensive second baseman or a valuable utility player. Mid Day Two is his likely landing spot, barring a major jump in either direction of his performance.

Nick Goodwin

Kansas State

Goodwin burst onto the scene at Kansas State, being awarded countless honors in 2021 as a freshman shortstop in the Big 12. Goodwin has average or better tools across the board with feel for the strikezone and usable game power. He's a solid average runner with strong instincts on the base paths. Goodwin may not end up at shortstop as a pro, likely shifting to his left or right at the next level, but you're buying the offensive profile here and a guy who is a true gamer in every sense of the word.

12-27-22 - 2022 Fall Report: Kansas State

This year’s team may not have the same kind of firepower, at least not on paper, but there will be more versatility through its athleticism led by a dynamic duo on the left side of their infield that may be the Big 12’s best: shortstop Nick Goodwin and third baseman Kaelen Culpepper.

Goodwin is now a junior, recently named D1Baseball’s 77th-best college prospect for the 2023 MLB Draft, and is coming off a strong summer on the Cape. He has hit double-digit home runs in each of his first two seasons on campus – 10 as a freshman and 11 last season – and appears to be poised to have a big third year in Manhattan. He provides not only a key bat but a key leader at arguably the most important position on the field, shortstop, for a team that needs its most seasoned players to step forward.

49. Nick Goodwin, INF, Kansas State – A shortstop at Kansas State, Goodwin is more likely to end up at either third or second. He has put up double digit home runs in each of his first two seasons and would have plenty of power in the bat if he does move to the hot corner. He has shown an improved feel for the zone, increasing his walk rate, but there are plenty of strikeouts in his game too. A guy who has ended a plate appearance with a 3 true outcome in 38% of trips so far in college, there is a lot of boom or bust when he steps to the plate.
