Tre' Morgan
LSU
Morgan is one of the best defensive first basemen college baseball has seen in quite some time, and that's not to take anything away from the bat. Morgan has been a force in all phases of the game since arriving on campus and brings a ton of tools to the table. He won't be 21 years old yet next July, so he'll be young for the draft. Morgan doesn't pack a ton of punch at the plate just yet, largely projected a fringe-average power hitter, but he hardly ever strikes out and posts healthy contact rates, using the entire field. If he continues to get stronger and adds a little game game thump, he's got top ten pick upside. It's a bit of a perculiar profile given his size and position, but Morgan is a gamer and we certainly wouldn't ever bet against his talent.

20. Toronto Blue Jays | Tre' Morgan, 1B, LSU
Morgan is a bit of a tweener right now in that he’s a 1B-only who hasn’t shown huge power, but at this juncture we’re betting on that power to come. The batted ball data is strong, and he makes a ton of contact while walking a good amount and playing Gold Glove caliber defense at first base. The Jays would do well to grab him here in this hypothetical, and he has the ingredients to be quick to the Big Leagues even as that power continues to manifest itself more and more into game action. -BS
12-1-22 - Six Tigers Named to D1 Baseball Top 100 College Prospects List for 2023 MLB Draft -
Six LSU players have been named to the D1Baseball.com Top 100 College Prospects List for the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.
LSU junior centerfielder Dylan Crews is No. 1 on the list; junior right-handed pitcher/utility player Paul Skenes is No. 10; sophomore right-handed pitcher Grant Taylor is No. 15; junior right-handed pitcher Ty Floyd is No. 44; junior first baseman Tre’ Morgan is No. 47; and junior right-handed pitcher Christian Little is No. 67.
Morgan, a 2022 SEC All-Defensive Team selection, hit .324 in 2022 with 18 doubles, one triple, five homers, 54 RBI and 50 runs. The New Orleans, La., native joined Crews this summer as a member of the U.S. Collegiate National Team that claimed the bronze medal at Honkbalweek Haarlem in the Netherlands.
Morgan batted .500 (6-for-12) in the Tigers’ three-game sweep at Vanderbilt (May 19-21) with four doubles, three RBI and five runs, and he delivered the game-winning two-out, two-run single in the top of the ninth inning at Mississippi State (April 8), erasing a 2-1 deficit and sparking LSU to a 5-2 victory.

Tre Morgan is ready to have a strong season. Some don’t know that Morgan played much of last season with a knee injury. But Morgan is now healthy and has been more explosive with the bat from a power standpoint.

29. Tre’ Morgan, 1B, LSU – Morgan is such an odd profile for today’s baseball, as he is an athletic first baseman who is hit over power at the plate. He is a guy who doesn’t like to strike out and will choke up on the bat with two strikes and shoot the ball the other way to secure a single. He doesn’t project to ever have more than average power, which is well below average when you take the defensive position into account. He is one of the better defensive first baseman college baseball has seen of late and he has a left side of the infield quality arm at first base, but he can be prone to some mental mistakes at times.
