2-27-23 - 2023 MLB Draft Preview: College players to watch -
Juaron Watts-Brown, RHP, Oklahoma State - As of right now Juaron Watts-Brown going #24 would seem a bit high, but he has a profile that the Braves like in their pitchers. Watts-Brown has four average or better pitches, with his slider being a potentially plus offering, and has solid command. He is also fairly newer to playing baseball full time, as he was also a high school football player. He missed 2021 injured from a football injury, made nine quality starts for Long Beach State last year, then went to the Cape Cod League and stood out before ending up transferring to Oklahoma State. This is a chance for a guy without a ton of mileage on his arm to raise his profile into a first rounder, if he can keep pitching like we saw in the Cape over the Big 12 season.
2-27-23 - Opening Weekend -
Juaron Watts-Brown, RHP, Oklahoma State– At 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, JW-B is lean and athletic. He has a loose, repeatable delivery with a quick arm. Touching 94 mph, he sat more 89-93 with sink and run at times. His slider flashed plus with late, sharp action at 81-83. In four innings of work he struck out six, walked one and allowed three runs on seven hits. He started hot out of the gates with two impressive innings, striking out two of the three Missouri hitters in the first and two of the four in the second. After two quick outs in the third, he scuffled a bit, finding barrels, hitting a batter and walking in a run. Overall, he did not meet the hype that he earned this fall in Stillwater when reports of a likely first round arm swirled around the scouting industry. This latest look was similar to the one I had last summer in the Cape, when I pegged him as a potential third-to-fifth round prospect. Clearly, one average start doesn’t make or break a season and JW-B has plenty of time to show the promise he displayed last fall.

Juaron Watts-Brown is done after 4 IP. Good stuff, but not the sharpest we've seen him.

Juaron Watts-Brown
Oklahoma State
"JWB" broke out in his first full season at Long Beach State, showing off his tantalizing skillset and upside as a starter. He transferred to Oklahoma State for 2023. He features a highly projectable frame with long limbs and a loose and easy arm action. His entire operation is smooth and effortless, boding well for a future starting role. He has feel for a standard four-pitch mix all with distinct shape. His fastball has big ride while averaging around seven feet of extension from a low launch. Both of his breaking balls have distinct shape, one being a tight slider, the other a hammer 11/5 curveball. The slider is nasty with fantastic tunnel off the fastball and sharp, late break. Watts-Brown has been up into the upper-90s and will routinely sits in the low-to-mid 90s during his starts. There's a lot of reasons to buy this arm in July and scouts have taken notice.

Juaron Watts-Brown had a strong freshman year at Long Beach State and brings a nasty four-pitch arsenal to the top of the OSU rotation.

The Cowboys brought in one of the top arms on the transfer market in righthander Juaron Watts-Brown, who struck out 111 in 73.1 innings as a freshman at Long Beach State last year. Watts-Brown showed some of the most electric stuff we saw this fall, attacking at 93-95 with a wipeout power slider, and he also features a quality changeup and curveball, giving him a true Friday night ace profile

38. Cincinnati Reds
Juaron Watts-Brown, RHP, Oklahoma State
Watts-Brown has surged up boards after a loud fall, touching 97 with an absolute banger slider and a changeup that’s really coming along. The Reds will do well adding to their future rotation with the addition of Watts-Brown and his explosive stuff.

33. Juaron Watts-Brown, RHP, Oklahoma State – The transfer portal is alive and well in college baseball, as Watts-Brown is yet another transfer on this list, moving from the Dirtbags of Long Beach State to the Pokes of Oklahoma State. JWB comes from a bit higher than 3/4 arm slot, but his fastball can get flat at times but does play up thanks to good extension. He also features a slider, curve, and change with the slider looking like a potential plus offering and the curve and 11-5 breaker that could get to plus as well. His change is behind both other offspeed offerings, but overall this is an arm that will has somewhat come out of nowhere and could be a dominant arm in the Big 12.

Today I'm in Stillwater to see OSU Baseball take on the Texas Rangers instructs squad. Long Beach State transfer Juaron Watts-Brown lives up to the hype he's been generating this fall, striking out the side in order in the first, all on filthy wipeout sliders at 86-87. FB 93-95. https://t.co/JexYKjNCDu

I beat this drum a good bit this summer. Along with others at PL, think JWB (Juaron Watts Brown) is one of the better arms in the draft, which was reflected in our latest draft ratings. Won't be surprised at all if he continues to climb. Going to pay close attention to him at OKSU

JWB broke out in his first full season in the Dirtbag rotation showing off his tantalizing skillset and upside as a starter. JWB has a highly projectable frame with long limbs and loose and easy arm action. His entire operation is smooth and effortless, boding well for a future starting role. He has feel for a standard four-pitch mix all with distinct shape. His FB has high IVB while averaging around seven feet of extension from a sub five VAA. Both of his breaking balls have distinct shape, from a tight slider to a hammer 11/5 curveball. The biggest question for him is his fastball velocity. He sat 89-92 MPH with his heater in 2022 so going forward its worth watching if he can increase his overall arm strength and physical durability. Aside from that JWB has all the traits to pop on the national scene as one of the top college pitchers.
