Now, he’s off to a red-hot start to begin the 2023 campaign, and that’s a big development for the Frogs. Nunez was the emotional leader for the Frogs in the rout over Arkansas. In addition to having a couple of hits for the Frogs, he pressed the issue with his speed, and also finished the night with a pair of walks.   Roc Riggio 2B/OF Oklahoma State 2022 Okla St. Stat line - 54-G, 210-AB, .295, 11-HR     2-27-23 - Opening Weekend  - Roc Riggio , 2B, Oklahoma State– Like Taylor, Riggio wasted no time starting his season off with some hard contact and a 4-for-11 (.364) showing at the Showdown. On Sunday he even played a for sure double into a single.   After a slow start last spring for the Cowboys, Riggio poured it on to finish with a .295/.413/.519 slash for his true freshman season. The draft-eligible sophomore has good feel at the plate and plenty of pop in his strong, compact 5-foot-9, 185 pound frame. He uses a balanced, athletic open stance and gets his hands into a good hitting position. He’s a solid defender at second base and could also potentially have utility value as a left fielder. Physically and athletically, he evokes comparisons of former OSU infielder Kaden Polcovich, a third-round pick in 2020, but the lefty-swinging Riggio is a better natural hitter and has a late first-round c

  Nolan McLean RHP/OF Oklahoma State   2-27-23 - Opening Weekend  - Nolan McLean , RHP/OF, Oklahoma State– The power hitting prospect has shifted from third base to the right field this season where his arm strength/raw power/defense tools profile well. During the Showdown he showed much more plate discipline with six walks against just two strikeouts compared to a 37/107 ratio in 242 at-bats last season. He also blasted a three-run home run to center field to put the Pokes back in the Vandy game, cutting the score to 11-8. It was a loud shot, one that needed earplugs from my seat. McLean is also a power prospect on the mound with a fastball up to 96 and a plus slider. He strong-armed Missouri for two strikeouts in the ninth inning to earn the save in State’s 5-3 win on opening night.
